Twin Elk Fire in Deer Creek Mesa/White Deer Valley Neighborhood

At 11:33 am Wednesday July 8 the volunteer firefighters, EMTs and paramedics of ICFPD were dispatched to a report of smoke in the area of Twin Elk Lane. The first firefighter to arrive on scene found a 1/2-acre wildfire in grass and brush moving toward two homes with a small wooden outbuilding burning. Firefighters, with the assistance of a private road crew, established a fireline around the fire. The assistance of the road crew using a small skid loader and already working on Twin Elk Lane was invaluable in creating a fireline. Firefighters worked to protect the homes on Wolverine Court and Twin Elk Lane. After containment of the fire, firefighters worked for several hours to identify and extinguish hotspots within the fire area. The fire was checked again Wednesday evening, at 2:00 am Thursday morning, at 7:30 am Thursday morning and ICFPD firefighters will check again later Thursday. Three of the road crew were treated for smoke inhalation by EMTs on scene and released. Fifteen ICFPD firefighters and four fire apparatus fought the fire of approximately two acres. Following the fire apparatus and equipment were cleaned and returned to service to prepare for the next response. Unfortunately, the wooden outbuilding was completely destroyed.
