Board of Directors

Jennifer Volkman, President

Jennifer is a 3rd generation Coloradan, raised in Littleton. She has lived in the Sampson Road Community in Deer Creek with her husband and son since 1990. While raising their son, Jennifer volunteered in the Conifer area schools for 13 years serving on various PTA boards and Collaborative Decision Making Committees working with the administrations, volunteering in classrooms, and for various sports teams.

She has also served on the Sampson Road Association board several times and over the last 10 years has been working to address the extreme fire risk in the Sampson Community.  Those efforts include collaborating with ICFPD, the Jeffco Sheriffs Emergency Management Office, and the Colorado State Forest Service.  Along with the sweat equity provided by the residents of the community and grant funding, over 200 acres of fuels have been reduced along Sampson Road. The community became a National Fire Protection Agency Fire Wise Community in the summer of 2015.

Efforts continue with community workdays throughout the summer to beat back mother nature and maintain the work that has been done. Jennifer is very grateful to all the friends and neighbors for their hard work and support that helped make this happen.

For a living, Jennifer works in the Younger Onset Alzheimer Community providing programs that bring meaningful activities and social interactions to clients outside their homes and respite for their loved ones.

Mike Swenson, Secretary

Mike Swenson and his wife, Jan, were raised in the Midwest but have been part of the Colorado foothills community for about 20 years; now living in The Homestead.  They are bicoastal grandparents—with a daughter, son-in-law and two grandkids in Corvallis, Oregon, and another daughter, son-in-law and two grandkids in Brooklyn, New York.

Mike is president of SwensonCommunications, an organization he formed to help businesses and organizations achieve success through clear strategy and effective communications.  On a pro bono basis, in support of the Governor’s Office of the State of Colorado, he developed the communication plan for the 2013 Colorado flood recovery effort; including a key role in the development of a unifying brand—ColoradoUnited.

A former senior executive at Accenture, Mike led global internal communications as the company evolved from a 34,000-employee, partner-led organization … through rebranding, strategic redirection and an IPO … and growth into a 200,000-employee, world leader in management consulting, technology services and outsourcing.

Prior to Accenture, Mike was a senior executive in corporate communications at Ameritech, a company formed by bringing together five former Bell Companies following the breakup of the Bell System.  In that role, he led advertising and external affairs and developed communication policies, programs and media.

Mike has a Master of Management from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri.

Ralph Dreher

My career with the ICFPD started on August 13, 1964 as a volunteer firefighter. I retired from active duty August 30th, 1997 and in the interim period was a Line Officer and Fire Marshal as well as a member of the District Board and President of the Pension Board. I served as a expert witness in various fire department related court cases.

During my tenure on ICFPD I attended and graduated from various fire and rescue related courses and seminars; Radiological Monitoring, Fire Safety Officer, Fire Department Insurance & Finance Administration, Incident Command, Arson Detection, Hazardous Material Incident Control, Advanced First Aid and First Responder Training culminating in graduation from the National Fire Academy in 1974.

As a life and reserve member of the ICFPD I continue to attend Business and Board Meetings and always enjoy the camaraderie and friendship of others as well as offering advice based on experience whenever it is asked for. Recently I was appointed to serve on the Board of Directors and I enjoy serving on the Board and find I could further contribute to the welfare of the Districts residents and to the firefighters by providing the best possible fire protection rescue service and equipment.
